Exile of the Sky God by P Anastasia is a subtle, thought-provoking book that will enchant the senses, and may leave you thinking about deity in a whole new way. This is the tale of Horus, Sky God and Far-Seer of Egyptian myth as the then young deity is stretching his wings, and exploring his place among the people of Egypt. But Horus is not whole, not yet, for Ra has stripped him of his magic and he must gain it back. To do so, the falcon god will shake the very foundations of the pantheon itself.
I love finding books that use mythology other than Greco-Roman! I don’t have anything against Greco-Roman myth, it’s just, that’s what they bludgeon kids with in school when it comes to learning about mythology. As if that’s all there is. At least, that was the case when I was in elementary and middle school, way back when. There’s so much more out there! Egyptian myth is fascinating, and seeing this story through young Horus’ eyes was great. It incorporates how Horus lost an eye, and the transition of power between Ra and Horus.
My only qualm with the story was an excessive use of double sentence stops. The pairing !? showed up way too often, and at times was distracting.
***Many thanks to the author and publisher for providing an ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review. This book was reviewed for ???
It’s really odd when a certain writing technique is used too much. But YAY Eqyptian gods instead! I’m over Greco-Roman gods too though Aislynn. 😉
Yea, they have gotten quite overused and there are soooo many other cultures out there with fascinating mythologies.
